The Training Visa (Subclass 407) is designed for individuals looking to develop their skills through workplace-based training in Australia. This visa is often a suitable alternative for applicants who do not currently meet the requirements for the Skills in Demand (SID) Subclass 482 Visa.
Under this visa, an eligible Australian organisation sponsors the applicant to undertake structured, occupation-specific training while working within the business. The 407 visa can be granted for up to two years, and dependent visa holders are limited to 20 hours of work per week.
Nominated by an Approved Sponsor: Employers must first become an Approved Temporary Activities Sponsor and lodge a Temporary Activity Nomination for the applicant.
Work/Study Experience Requirement: At least 12 months of relevant experience within the last 24 months and Experience can be through full-time work or through related study in the nominated occupation
Designed for applicants who must complete supervised, workplace-based training to obtain registration, membership, or licensing in their occupation. This requirement must be mandatory to work in the role in Australia or overseas.
The most common stream for applicants undertaking structured, on-the-job training in an eligible occupation. A customised training plan must directly address skill development needs.
For applicants completing practical training, research, observation or professional development as part of their overseas studies, or when supported by an employer or government agency.
Structured workplace-based training with an Australian sponsor that:
• Is tailored to the applicant’s training needs
• Relates to an occupation on the skilled occupation list
• Requires at least 12 months of relevant experience or study in the last 24 months
Provides structured, workplace-based professional development:
• Must be specifically tailored to enhance professional capability
• Only available to eligible Subclass 407 occupations
• Requires 12 months of full-time study or relevant work experience
