The Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) allows a parent, legal guardian, or eligible relative to stay in Australia to provide accommodation, care, and support to an international student under 18 years of age studying on a Student Visa.
This visa ensures young students have proper welfare arrangements during their studies and allows guardians to stay in Australia for the same period as the student. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, financially capable, and able to provide suitable living arrangements.
Processing times typically range from 60 days to 4 months.
Remain in Australia for the same length as the student’s visa.
Study English (ELICOS) less than 20 hours/week or short courses for up to 3 months.
This visa does not permit any kind of employment.
Only one guardian is allowed per student visa holder.
Available when the student is under 18 years and requires welfare and accommodation support from a responsible adult.
The visa may be granted in special circumstances where the student requires additional supervision due to health, safety, or welfare concerns.
Guardians may apply when supporting eligible New Zealand student visa holders studying in Australia.
